Jane Jackson is Professor in the Department of English at the Chinese University of Hong Kong where she also serves as the Postgraduate Linguistics Coordinator. Prior to CUHK, she was the Director of the TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) Centre at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Canada. Jane received her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto and her Master of Education degree (M.Ed.) from the University of Calgary. As well as Hong Kong, she has held academic positions in Canada, Egypt, Oman, and the United States. She has also worked as a consultant on English language teacher education/curriculum projects in Beijing, China. Her teaching interests are in the areas of second language acquisition, intercultural communication, English for specific purposes (ESP), curriculum design, research methods in language learning, and case-based pedagogy in teacher education/ business education. Her research, publications, and presentations focus on the development and use of cases in international educational settings. She has received competitive external research grants to investigate the linguistic and cultural challenges involved with the use of cases in business education in Hong Kong. Jane is now developing cases for use in teacher education or professional development programs that prepare teachers for the realities of the English as a second or foreign language classroom. |
