International Programs: The New Frontier for Academia

In recent years academic institutions, in large part as a response to the

• increase in corporate globalization,

• development of the world-wide web,

• creation of cross-national political unions,

have been creating and/or expanding their international programs. Offering courses in international studies, developing student and faculty exchange programs, and establishing research links with foreign institutions has become an imperative. But there are both social and economic costs as well as benefits to such undertakings.

Papers and contributions and participation for a panel discussion are solicited. The various stakeholders - including faculty, administrators, students, and potential employers - will examine

• ways in which international programs can be developed, implemented, staffed, funded and the

• social and economic impact on the institution, its constituents and the greater community.
