Consortium: "Technology Meets Culture"

Managing Global Information

Co-chairs:
Dr. Robert DeMichiell & Dr. Richard Manning
Nova Southeastern University (NSU), U.S.A.

This new initiative focuses on widening the perspectives of doctorial students to include information technology as an integral part of the strategic planning process for government, business, and/or education environments. Day 1 (Saturday) of the two-day formal pre-conference consortium consists of presentations by international experts followed by interactive discussions of the interplay among information technology, decision making, and culture. Doctoral students are expected to engage in the discussions and relate briefly how their research activity is or is not impacted by these concerns.

The second day (Sunday) requires the students to attend a full day cross-cultural teaching forum which examines methodologies and techniques for use in the classroom. This session will feature seasoned professional educators and business practitioners who will offer advice on the use of case studies and experiential exercises for more effective cross-cultural learning.

Academic credit for NSU doctoral students is possible; other universities may elect to sponsor their students. For academic credit for Information Technology NSU students, attendance at additional sessions during the conference week and a written report is required. There very well may be proceedings published for selected presentations of the consortium including student written reports. Attendance at the full conference (Sunday-Thursday) following the consortium includes visits to German research and technology companies.
